Parkersburg High School - Class of 60

Guestbook

I am very happy to have served on the 50 year reunion committee. Not having participated in past reunions, I was amazed at the dedication and hard work it takes to put together a successful program. By reading the positive post reunion comments from those who attended I am proud to have been a part. I would like to personally thank those who spent all the extra hours coordinating and working to make this reunion the best ever. Thanks also go out to those whose financial generosity made it all possible. I want to personally thank Dick McCoy for encouraging me to not only get involved and stay involved, but also to provide the finances to put together the "Remember When" vIdeo. I am proud to have graduated with class of "60" and it was great to recapture many of those memories with all of those that attended.

I have completed retyping the speech given to our tour group by Mr. Ralph Board, Principal of Parkersburg High School on Saturday, August 7. This will be posted on our website soon along with pictures taken during the tour. Mr. Board gave us historical facts along with up to date information about the school and promoted the PHS Creed. We have had the Creed posted on our website for quite sometime as part of our Class Information page.

The Parkersburg High School Foundation also offers a page of historical facts on their website. The link is:

Thanks for all the wonderful memories.
All the best.

I've looked forward to this 50th.reunion from the time I ordered my ticket. If there was anything to be disappointed about, it would be not being able to see all the people you wanted to see. What a wonderful memory you (the committee) created for us. Thank you seems so inadequate yet you need to know that ALL your hard work was appreciated beyond what words can express. To those who shared their "giving" spirit, thank-you for making it affordable and possible for all of us to attend. Thank-you, Thank-you - see you in 2015???

Thanks again to the reunion committee for a job well done. I didn't get a chance to thank every one on the committee, but you know who you are, thank you. It could not get any better. Larry, a great job on organizing the golf get to gether. Again to the committee, a job well done. I could have spent a week in time just Fri or Sat talking to and getting to know our class mates again. As we go on in time, lest we not forget PHS.
Hope to see you in 2015.

The day before the reunion and plans are in place for a wonderful weekend for our 50th celebration of our high school graduation! We have had a fantastic team of people putting this weekend together and they are to be commended for their planning and work. The planning for such a large event takes team work we have the best group of people to work with as they have taken their responsibilities seriously and have made all the details happen.

Thank you Jamie for your leadership and for all you have done to make this weekend a success. We are so grateful to our anonymous benefactors who have given their financial resources to make this reunion a memorable one. Thank you Marda for all your detailed work in keeping our attendee list in order as the reservations came in. Your mailbox must have been full for several months!

Thank you Sharon and Karen for this website and for your willingness to keep it up to date for our Class of 1960. I had a dream - and you made it come true - and the website will remain as our legacy to the class.

Sharon is going to be on her way from Washington, DC with a car load of name tags this morning and I'm getting ready to leave Charleston with a trunk full of directories. Charlotte is going to love to see me pulling up to her house with them! She has been such a tremendous help to me and I appreciate her taking the time to proofread spreadsheets and name tags and a million other things I asked her to do.

We'll be at Charlotte's this afternoon putting gifts bags together with a great group of ladies and then I will be working with Sharon tonight at the hotel to make sure the name tags are in order.

Plus a family dinner at Da Vincis in Williamstown this evening.

Save travels for everyone and enjoy the weekend for our 50th anniversary celebration.

All the best.

We are hopeful for a bit cooler temperatures on Friday for our boat ride and picnic. Plan to arrive at the picnic site early to get your name tag and gift bag. The boat will leave Buzzie's dock at 5 p.m. and return at 7 p.m.

See you there.

If you see one that should be corrected please let us know. Sharon has done a great job with them and Charlotte has helped us proof them. We've burnt the midnight oil and are ready for the big weekend.

Reunion time is here! I am sitting in my Charleston office, looking out the window across Quarrier Street to the Kanawha County Library building - wondering how the time could have gone by so fast. When the August date was decided it seemed so far away. And the 50 years have flown by.

I am also wondering how I could lose 5 lbs. and look 10 years younger by Friday. The chocolate covered peanuts just gave me the energy boost to finish up the day!!

I had word from Linda Kuhn today that Keith passed away today. We send our heartfelt condolences to Linda and her son Brian. When I was traveling back and forth so much to Duke University, Roger and I had the opportunity to visit with Linda and Keith and Brian and they were delighted to have visitors from "home". And on one visit with them they met our daughter Debbie and simply claimed her as their own.

Keith was a friend to many and we have such fond memories of our growing up in Vienna and going to school with him.

Greetings! I just finished processing a batch of reservations and sent the list to Sharon to be posted on the attendee list on our website. Thanks so much for sending your reservation and also your directory information. I am busy keeping up the database as the information comes in and if you see a mistake in your name on the attendee list, please let me know. I've tried to find someone (or something) to blame for any of my mistakes - so far I've found no one. However, my dog Maggie is here by my feet begging and pleading for another treat - and I told her she was distracting me! I can blame her as I just got up and gave her another cookie.

I have added new e-mail addresses to our list and will write another note soon to everyone. That way I can see if all the e-mails are delivered.

All the best.

I am back from Parkersburg and have been working on the directory database since my return today. I've sent the new list of attendees to Sharon and she will be posting it on the web and we've found a few addresses that were missing and I've entered them into the database.

When you look at the attendee list - if you see any error, please let me know.

Please plan to arrive early at the picnic area on Friday afternoon. The sternwheeler is scheduled to leave the dock promptly at 5 p.m. Plan to arrive early to register and we'll have your directory and the piece of Fenton at the registration table and you might want to put them in your car before boarding the boat. Name tags will also be at the registration table.

The boat will be returning to the dock at 7 p.m. and the picnic will be ready for us.

Don't forget to send in your reservation right away as we need them by June 15th.

What fun to catch up on everyone's news. I am unable to attend the reunion but look forward to the pictures. Ron and I just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. We have two children, Barry and Wendy and three grandchildren: Meghan who is 6, Owen who is 2 1/2 and Molly who is 2 weeks old. They keep us busy with projects and fun things. We have been retired about 10 years, love to travel and spend time with friends and family. Several class mates have contacted me and I hope to catch up with them in the near future. Have a wonderful reunion.

Hello to everyone. On May 6th we sent a reminder e-mail to our list from the old directory information. We had 84 that were returned as undeliverable. There were many reasons these e-mails bounced back - all the charter.net addresses were undeliverable plus after 5 years we knew folks would be changing their e-mail addresses.

I have compiled a list of people we sent the e-mails to that were undeliverable and it will be posted on the website. If your name is on the list, please update your directory information as quickly as possible. The deadline is June 30th.

Thanks for your help in keeping our directory current.

So sorry i can't be with you for our 50th. I'm still working as an art director for Hallmark. Our daughter is a designer for Hallmark as well. We have 2 wonderful granddaughters and my husband and I just celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary with a 2 week trip to Paris. I still cherish my years at PHS, especially my classes with Isabel Wilson. She was a wonderful art teacher, she inspired me to reach for my goal of being a professional commercial artist. I'm so thankful we ALL attended a first class High School....not so easy to find these days.

Great news! The invitation letter for our 50th reunion is now complete and will be mailed after our March 1 meeting. Along with the letter is the reservation form to be completed and returned to Marda Wilson.

I want to say thank you to Charlotte Clinton and Cathi Cummins for their help they gave me with their suggestions and research for the letter and the reservation form. Their help was invaluable.

The letter and reservation form will be posted shortly on our website. I would encourage you to make your reservation early and to let us know of any change in your directory information.

I also want to thank Sharon Cline and her daughter Karen for their skills in keeping our website current. They do a great job for us and I appreciate so much how they take care of my requests so quickly. Hi all,

I'm working on the the 50th directory and I want/need/desire a photo of the PHS front doors but I'd like something that illuminates the actual door which is inset. If you are willing to go take a few photographs for me, please let me know.

To get what I want I'm thinking morning sun, between 9 and 11 o'clock. Probably right about now or in Jan/Feb will provide the fullest illumination of the inner front doors.

The photographs need to be as high resolution as possible.

If you are willing to give this a shot, please email me so I can describe exactly what I'm looking to get.

Thanks so much!

I've been working on the db again this morning and have 37 Save the Date letters ready to be mailed from the addresses given to me to add and from letters returned with forwarding addresses. Some addresses have been removed that were undeliverable.

If any of the 37 letters that I mail tomorrow come back as undeliverable and with no forwarding address, I will remove that address from the db.

The new list of blank addresses now total 70 and I will take that report to the committee meeting in November.

Data is backed up on an external hd for safety.

Mary Helmick has just informed me that the charter.net email addresses are no longer valid.

Those of you who have had to change from charter.net to something else, if you'd like us to update your email address, can you please start sending us your new email addresses? You can either email myself or Mary or submit the new information through the Directory Information link on the left menu.
Thanks!
Sharon

You should all know that our comments ARE read. I would like to publicly thank "Jamie" Snyder for responding to my fervent plea and providing a 1960 Parhiscan. His generosity was a more than pleasant surprise for which I am grateful.

While giving great joy a review of the 1960 Parhischan pages also gave great sadness as I looked upon faces I well knew back then but have not seen since 1960. Some that will never be seen again but in memory are no longer quite so faded.

Thanks, Jamie.

Pat & I have just returned from spending a bit of time with friends and relatives in Parkersburg and took the opportunity to try to locate a copy of OUR Parhiscan for 1960 (the bronze one). With all our travels around the world mine has gone walk about and I'd like to get another.

A very NICE YOUNG LADY in the PHS Admin Office (she was PA to the Principal) put me in touch with the distributor and the book store in the old Carnegie Library but, no luck. PHS did let me look through their library copy which had us all in there but couldn't part with their only copy.

Does anyone know of a 1960 Parhiscan that might be available or excess to requirements? I'd be happy to beg, buy or even volunteer to provide pages for on-line scrutiny if any one can help me out.

Cheers to all . . .
