Hi Sharon - Great job on the photos. How did we find time to work - I'm busier now than when I had a "real" job & like it a lot better! There have been several inquiries about donations for our 50th reunion in 2010. If anyone wishes to make a donation please make check payable to "PHS Class of 1960" & mail to our treasurer Charlotte Clinton, 4708-8th Ave., Vienna, WV 26105. We have an account set up at United Bank. Meetings for next reunion will probably start in Dec 2009 & will be posted for anyone to attend. All help will be appreciated.

Hello to all my fellow classmates. Greetings and my thanks to Sharon for our updated website and the pictures from the 45th reunion. I am hopeful that prior to our 50th reunion our website visits will increase as the plans go forward. Please visit the site often and give us your feedback.
All the best to everyone! Mary Sue

The 45th Reunion Photos have been uploaded and the entire website has been updated.
Thank you for your patience and even your impatience :-) It's been a long wait!
The 45th Photo Album has a different look that the 40th. There is a place where you can enter feedback. Please use this space to help notate the images. I will eventually embed these notations as captions but I thought this would be an easy way for you to help identify all those in the photos.
The "In Memory Of" page has been updated. Please take a moment to remember those classmates.
All previous Guestbook entries can be found under the Guestbook/Archives link.
And please give us your feedback for the upcoming 50th Reunion.

TO RON VADAKIN:
I RECEIVED THE SAME MAIL AND CALLED THE 800 NUMBER. AFTER ASKING ALL MY INFO THEY THEN TRIED TO SELL ME A HARD BACK PARISCHAN FOR $40 OR A SOFT BACK FOR $20 THAT HAD EVERYONE IN IT THAT EVER GRADUATED FROM PHS UP TO 2007. THAT WAS ALL IT WAS.

CAUTION:
I receintly received two requests for biographical information from Parkersburgh High School FDN, Inc. Norfolk , VA for a PHS graduate directory. My first name, address, and class year were correct, but the first four characters of my last name were incorrect. The request gives an 800 number to call. I have not responded as this seems suspicious. Can anyone confirm this is a legitimate request?

Larry, do you really think that is important---Senior Doors. The fact is, in a school that big with that many students, how would you know who was a senior or not? Also, how would you enforce the rule??? What would you do to someone who went through that was not a senior? I remember going through those doors all the time, no one said a word. I remember charging the doors to see if the glass would break--it didnt.
While school traditions are fine, I would bet that educators just want kids to go to shoool and do well no matter what door they go into or come out of. It just seems a lame thing to consider in the grand scheme of things. I agree seniors should be recognized in some way due to their accomplishments, but doubt the doors really play a role. Graduating and walking is the best one I can think of.

Recently, the Parkersburg News has had several letters to the editor in regard to the "lapsed" traditions at PHS. Specifically, the use of the Senior Doors by underclassmen and the use of the center campus for practice by sports teams. I realize that space is now at a premium on campus. There have been several sports added since our class was graduated and additional buildings have taken up more open ground. So, I do not have a problem with the use of the center campus for sports team and band usage. HOWEVER, I would like to see the tradition of the Senior Doors continued. This is something to be looked forward to by all underclassmen and am anticipated privilege for Seniors. I still get a thrill when I walk through the doors.
If you agree with me we could start a write in campaign to the editor of the paper and express our feelings. I will be sending my letter in the next day or two.
Carolyn "Boo" Conner Funk had a comment in a recent paper in which she expressed her feelings that the traditions that her father supported so adamantly should be continued.
Lets get on board and let the paper and current residents of Parkersburg know that the class of '60 wants these traditions continued.

DEDICATED
TO MY
FORMER CLASSMATES
FROM
PHS CLASS OF 1960
THOSE WHO HAVEGONE AFAR
THEY WERE MY FRIENDS,
FROM SO LONG AGO,
I KNEW THEM WHEN WE WERE SO YOUNG,
IN THAT TIME WHEN OUR LAUGHTER SHINED,
WHEN OUR YOUTH WAS FOREVER YOUNG,
WE HAD OUR LIVES FOREVER THEN,
BUT THEN WE AGED AND WENT OUR SEPERATE WAYS,
ACROSS THE WIDE WORLD OF OUR YEASTERDAYS,
INTO THAT PALCE WHERE YOUTH IS DULL AND GREY,
BUT IN OUR HEARTS OUR YOUTH FOREVER STAYS,
I REMEMBER WHEN WE LAUGHTED AND PALYED,
FRIENDSHIPS OF OUR YOUNGER DAYS STILL LIES UPON MY HEART,
NOW MY FRIENDS HAVE BEGUN TO PASS,
TO THEIR PLACE AMPNG THE STARS AND HEAVEN'S GRACE,
NOW IN THE GLORY OF GOD'S OWN GRACE,
I WILL MISS YOU MY FRIENDS UNTIL MY OWN TIME MUST COME,
WHEN WE SHALL MEET IN GOD'S OWN TIME,
GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU,

"THESE TH WORDS OF LESSER MEN"
"JUST A BARTENDER'S THOUGHTS"
DEDICATED
TO
A CLASSMATE
MARY SUE DAVIS HELMICK
AND THE CLASS OF 1960
A NEW FREND
AND FRIENDSHIPS RENEWED
i WENT UNTO THE WEB,
NOT SO VERY LONG AGO,
LOOKING FOR SOME FRIENDS I LOST SO LONG AGO.
I SEARCHED ACROSS THAT VASTNESS,
CALLED THE INTERNET,
A WASTLAND OF THOSE LOST SOULS.
A PLACE THAT HIDES,
THOSE PATHOMS OF YOUR MIND,
FRIENDS YOU LOST SO LONG AGO.
THE YEARS HAVE PASSED,
MY SEARCHES EVER LONG,
A FRIEND I'VE FOUND TO HELP MY SEARCH ALONG.
SHE LIT MY PATHS,
DOWN CORRIDORS OF THE PAST,
TO SHOW MY EMPTY SOUL THE WAY.
IN THE DEPTHS OF THE NIGHT,
THERE SHOWED THE LIGHT,
OF THOSE MY VANISHED DREAMS.
MARY SUE DID GUIDE THE WAY,
THROUGH SHADOWED PAST,
AND MISTY GLASS INTO THE LIGHT OF DAY.
NOW FRIENDS I THOUGHT I LOST,
FROM THE MIST NOW WALK,
PERHAPS TO STAND WITH ME.
PERHAPS TO SHAKE MY HAND,
AND SAY THOSE WORDS LOST IN ETERNITY,
i'VE MISSED YOU MY OLD FRIEND.
NOW WE WALK SIDE BY SIDE,
OUR YOUTH HAS GONE AWAY,
BUT I HOPE THAT OUR FRIENDSHIP WILL NEVER END.
I REMEMBER STEVE JACKSON,
HE WAS A FOOTBALL HERO WAY BACK WHEN,
I REMEMBER RAY MOREY,
HE WAS A STEADFAST FRIEND,
AND THERE WAS WILLIAM NEWTON MAY THE THIRD,
A WORTHWHILE FRIEND OF MINE,
SO MANY WERE THE DAYS OF YORE AND THOSE FRIENDS I LEFT BEHIND,
ONE SUCH FRIEND WAS RONNIE WARD,
THAT BOY COULD REALLY STRUT HIS STUFF,
I SEE MANY THAT I KNEW FROM VERY LONG AGO,
THERE IN THAT BOOK OF TARNISHED GOLD,
NOW LIKE US IT'S TATTERED AND IT'S GROWN OLD,
THE PARHISCHAN IS WHAT WE CALLED IT,
AND THEREIN ARE THOSE MEMORIES OF OUR YOUTH,
THOSE MEMORIES MADE OF GOLD,
THEN MY HEART GROWS SAD FOR THOSE WE LOST,
WHO HAVE ENTERED INTO HEAVEN'S DOOR,
THERE WITH GOD THEIR YOUTH NOW RETURNED,
AND PEACE BE WITH THEM THERE AT HEAVEN'S DOOR.

I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH BOTH SHARON AND MARY SUE AND THEY ARE BOTH WELL, JUST VERY BUSY. I GUESS WE JUST NEED TO REMEMBER THAT ALL THEY DO FOR OUR CLASS COMES FROM THE GOODNESS OF THEIR HEART AND THEIR LOYALTY TO THE CLASS OF '60 AND THEY NEED TIME TO GET IT ALL TOGETHER AND PRESENTED THE WAY THEY WANT IT.
SONJA, GLAD TO SEE YOU FINALLY GOT MOVED. I 'LL BET IT IS MIGHTY COLD ON THAT RIVER. IT WILL BE BEAUTIFUL IN THE SUMMER THOUGH.
HOPE ALL OF YOU ARE WELL AND STAYING WARM.

Apologies to everyone! I am still here but busier in retired life than I ever was when I worked full-time. I've made statements in the past that photos will be here soon and then have not been able to meet that commitment. I have finally gotten the images (including Gene's and Marcia's) all into my computer and had them ready to load on the web site when I realized there are several pages that need to be updated before I can get the photos up. I have a business that I've been trying to get going and it's taken every spare minute I have. I am currently working on getting those pages updated and hope to have the photos up in the next few weeks.
